NEWS RELEASE: Local full-time football & education scholarship course opens

A full-time education programme which combines the studying of BTEC sport course with football for young males aged between 16 and 18 years old is opening at Alsager Town Football Club.

The purpose of the scholarship programme is to improve and progress young footballers on the pitch, whilst improving the academic qualifications of the prospective player in order for them to move on to university / Further education, thus offering opportunities to pursue a career in the sports industry.

The BTEC course, which is equivalent to A Levels, covers a variety of sport related aspects such Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Anatomy & Physiology, Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing and Sports Injuries.

Within in the programme there will also be opportunities for the students to gain football related qualifications such as the FA Level 1 Coaching qualification and Basic Referees course.

The scholarship programme will work in conjunction with ESTC, who are a nationally recognised training provider who offer scholarships, apprenticeships and work based placements.

Michelle Gauntlett, ESTC Operations Manager said “ESTC are proud to help and support Alsager Town Football Club with the scholarship programme.

This programme is an alternative to college or sixth form and may just give the young men the opportunity they have not had previously, we have already seen young men from this program progress to professional football clubs and Higher Education.”
