Parade and Carnival - Monarchs of the Millenium

July 22nd 2000

Organised by the Alsager 2001 Committee, the event started with a parade through the town centre.

This float was created by Alsager Youth Project.

After the parade there was a carnival in Milton park featuring:-

  • Morris Dancers
  • Mummers play
  • Fire Eaters
  • Dance Arena
  • Beer Tent
  • lots of stalls
  • refreshments
  • face painting
  • local bands
A wide range of equipment was provided for visitors to test their balancing and juggling skills.
A demonstration of gem panning was provided by Michael Pace of Newchapel Science Centre together with a stall providing magnifying lenses.
A medieval village was set up by the Poor Cnights of St Chad - a Staffordshire based historical re-enactment group.

The event also featured an exhibition of arts and crafts in
St. Mary's Church Hall.

This included a lacemaking demonstration by Sue Taylor and Ingrid Le Count of Cheshire Bobbin Clickers.

On view in the Church was a textile exhibition by Alsager Patchworkers and Quilters and other groups.
This pebble mosaic was part of a display by Alsager Highfields CP and Church Lawton CP.

There was also a Millennium Family History Day at the Civic Centre.
